Sometimes called "Venice of the Alps", this idyllic description comes from the two canals and the Thiou river running through the old city. There are plenty of museum tours, castles, guided tours and exhibitions and Annecy and its suburbs have received the much-coveted "Art and History" label. There is a market twice a week and many interesting boutiques and wonderful restaurants.

Morzine's Dranse River dives deep into a fissure beneath a natural archway formed from the mountain rock.
The Medieval village of Yvoire
One of the most beautiful villages in France. Narrow streets lead to the Lake side water and an abundance of flowers brightly colour the medieval buildings.
