Skiing in Les Gets, Morzine and the Portes du Soleil
There is something for everyone here in Les Gets. It is a fantastic resort for family and mixed ability groups with chairlifts and gondolas leaving from the village centre and quickly whisking you up over tree lined slopes giving magnificent views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains and even Lake Geneva in the distance! It's easy to spend the day skiing together, sharing the lifts, choosing a run depending on your ability and then eventually meeting up again at the bottom for a vin chaud or hot chocolate in one of the many mountain restaurants.
For the more advanced skiers and snowboarders it's worth exploring further afield, there are plenty of day trips around the Portes du Soleil to choose from and you can even take on the challenge of the full 'Portes du Soleil Tour' encompassing all 12 resorts (Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel, Torgon, Morgins, Champoussin, Les Crosets, Champery, Abundance, Montriond and St Jean D’Aulps) dropping in and out of France and Switzerland. How about testing your skills on The Wall (Pas de Chavanette), the most demanding ski run in the Portes du Soleil at Avoriaz where you can have breakfast in France and lunch in Switzerland, it's a fantastic day out!
Les Gets is perfect for those with young children who are looking for a first skiing holiday. The town gained the 'Famille plus Montagne' award which guarantees a welcoming environment for children with a fantastic nursery area on Chavannes that is ideal for first timers with easy progression and a good variety of beautifully groomed, tree-lined green and blue runs with areas and facilities accommodating even the youngest of skiers. Check out The Grand Cry area and the children's Indian run, you can even get your face painted! Ski Schools and private lessons operate from either the bottom of Chavannes or at the mid-station where there is also a large restaurant (The Yeti) which is accessed via an easy telecabine, so beginners don't even have to put their skis on without their instructor being at hand!
Intermediate & Advanced Skiers
The Ranfoilly Bowl and Morzine Plateau are ideal for intermediate skiers with a wide range of blue, red and black runs to practice on. For advanced skiers try out Chamossiere area, especially the off-piste and free ride zone. When the lifts get busy on Chavannes try out Mont Chery, a smaller, quiet zone where there are great red and black runs as well as some fun off-piste through the trees. Both sides of the valley of Les Gets give access to good intermediate skiing and for the advanced skiers the extensive domain of the Portes du Soleil is heaven.
The Portes Du Soleil offers a huge selection of fantastic skiing that is right on our doorstep. We provide lifts to Super Morzine and Ardent, which connects you to Avoriaz. It is also very easy to ski to Morzine from Les Gets. From Avoriaz the rest of the area is connected, with endless options including Linga , Chatel, Morgins, Torgon, Champoussin, Les Crosets and Chapelle d’Abondance. We offer accompanied ski days where you are welcome to join us on a tour of the area. We try to ski the Portes Du Soleil Circuit once a week which usually entails a long day ski with a big lunch! A PDS pass for this is required and is only for skiers who can ski red runs and above.
Snowboarding in Les Gets
Snowboarding has grown massively in popularity across Europe in recent years. Les Gets and the other Portes du Soleil resorts have developed their slopes to offer some fantastic pistes and specialist areas for Snowboarders. There are now 9 Snowparks, a Superpipe and a specialist area called ‘The Stash’ offering natural jumps, rails and obstacles.
The mountains around us have every terrain imaginable – gentle wide open pistes, long steep descents and spectacular off-piste routes. For beginners, the pistes of Les Chavannes and Le Pleney offer plenty of space for learning to turn with wide pistes and gentle gradients. Intermediates can take their first air on the friendly beginner parks in Les Gets and nearby Morzine and Avoriaz, all three offer a progression of jumps, boxes and rails.
Les Gets also has a boardercross track designed by Olympic World Champion Deborah Anthonioz and a brilliant snow park on the Mont Chery mountain area with boardercross trails to race down and to practice your technique. For experts out there – there is the Snowpark d’Arare and the Superpipe.
For skiers and snowboarders of intermediate ability and above a definite 'to do' before you leave is the Vallee Blanche and stunning Mer de Glace Glacier. We can organise a day out to Chamonix with an experienced and qualified Guide to take you down the 17km route descending through 2800m of stunning mountain views and offering the experience of a lifetime.
Cross Country Skiing
There are 18kms of marked cross country routes in Les Gets with many more accessible in the Portes du Soleil area. Cross country skiing can be a great way to explore the mountain on a leisurely tour, or at the other extreme – can be a gruelling work out that any athlete would be proud of. The versatility of the sport makes it suitable for children and is therefore popular with families as a winter sport. As with all the skiing disciplines rental equipment is available in Les Gets and we can organise all of this for you.
